I'd go with hammer. Yeah I use the cookie cutter devastating build, sometimes forceful blow, hell I like the big noise it makes when i crush my opponent's head.
then sword, crip slash is *great* and so is dragon slash. plus, sever/gash/final = <3
I dont like axes, eviscerate is fine but not useable in any other situation than spike.
yeah for me my preference mainly comes from elites.

Because you are expected to take damage, hammers are not reccomended because of the lack of using a shield. Axe's are good damage, but they attack just a bit slow for my taste. Plus there isnt a good variety in the axe attacks, most of them are "you strike for +xx damage and foe suffers from deep wound"
Personally, I prefer the sword, simply because when tanking in PvE (or PvP play) against melee enemies, Gladiator's defence + riposte can't be beat. That, and swords have the smallest attack range, so your going to get about the same damage per hit every time.

Tanking is non-existant in casual play PvE. There is no threat or aggro control, hence no tanking. Tanking is only used in farming. Personally, that's one of my favorite things about Guild Wars - it doesn't go with the MMO cliche of tanking. Warriors are known best for one thing: Their insane DPS.
In PvE warriors should use a shield since they're usually the first ones to take a huge hit, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with using a hammer.
As for what I use? Swords all the way. My fiery dragon sword is mah baby. Dragon Slash cannot be beat.

Having to wait till everyone else on your team is dead before you can actually do some damage: Priceless.
And yes, I stole that.
My personal preference generally lies with axes because they combine pressure and spike-ability best in my opinion. It really depends on the team build though, and I'll play any weapon if I'm required.

LOL
makes me think back to all those fags in ab that run that... and call you a pussy if you stop attacking them..... even though you have half a brain and understand the right thing to do. -.-

Well, to be quite honest, everyone's opinions so far have some bit of truth to them, except the crazy guy talking about tanking in PvE and PvP,lol.
Anyway, axes can attack multiple foes, as mentioned earlier, but only with Triple Chop/Cyclone axe. Add alittle Splinter Weapon on top and "KABOOM!", AoE axe warrior extreme. Other axe skills, such as Eviscerate ,Executioner's,Penetrating,Critical, etc, are all viable in PvE or PvP. Axes don't attack any slower than swords, yet, their damage output has more of a spike nature due to the minimum/maximum damage spread that the axe naturally has. The higher the skill level, the better the chance of a spike in damage.
Swords have a steady damage ratio, making for a far superior DPS than either of the other warrior weapons. The thought of using Riposte/Deadly Riposte has to be taken into consideration by players with high tactic levels in a PvP/PvE setting ONLY if they totally intend to Farm or constantly intercept melee type characters(IE. Warriors,Dervs,Sins,Thumpers,etc.). This isn't always a desireable way to play a warrior in high end PvP, where defense is looked upon poorly when the job of the PvP Warrior is damage output. 2 slots that only are useful if you're attacked physically isn't looked upon as smart by the populous. Even though DR/R will truely carve up a melee character in any matchup imaginable, this is not the overall use of a warrior.
Hammers do the most damage but moves slower and leaves the use of a shield out of its armor equation. Also, the KD factor is not as needed in PvE as it is in PvP. This would make the hammer the least desired for overall warrior purpose, since the PvP Warrior is built for maximum damage and/or spike potential. Hammer warriors scream "Pressure", due to high damage output and KDs, but the axe warrior is the desired spike warrior of PvP. Steady damage works for a foe who is overextended, but the spike is where the killing most likely happens in a PvP scenario.
With all that being said, the preference factor is what sways every player. I have hardly used hammers more than to just break up the regular routine. I, like others, use axe mostly against foes who don't bleed and opponents who don't overuse a riposte build. No axe build can take on an anti melee/riposte build. Only a total idiot would think that they have an easy win over that type of build with physical attacks. I prefer sword builds due to the way a swordsman is looked upon in stories and in history.
Skills of preference for the sword,
[skill=card]"You're All Alone!"[/skill][skill=card]Deadly Riposte[/skill][skill=card]Gash[/skill][skill=card]Sun and Moon Slash[/skill][skill=card]Final Thrust[/skill][skill=card]Flail[/skill][skill=card]Healing Signet[/skill][skill=card]Enraging Charge[/skill]
In PvP, this takes a slight change,
[skill=card]"You're All Alone!"[/skill][skill=card]Sever Artery[/skill][skill=card]Gash[/skill][skill=card]Final Thrust[/skill][skill=card]Dash[/skill][skill=card]Flail[/skill][skill=card]Healing Signet[/skill][skill=card]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
My point is that preference will always sway the person behind the character on which they use and how do they use it, but no one can knock the facts of success and practical usage of skills. I say play with them all and find the one that you like most.

whenever I get to choose (which is most of the time..), hammer. someone posted that hammer does low DPS, I respectfully disagree, they always did a shitload of dmg, and now mighty blow did get a lil buff, things are even better.

Depends on the situation. Most of Prophecies I can run anything, though less swords because lots of things didn't Bleed. Factions is basically exclusive sword in the city, hammer elsewhere. Nightfall doesn't matter until vabbi, where I start running axes exclusively.

I have no preference because I use all three..
PvE-wise of course Sword or Axe, but I'll use any of the three in PvP, although I'll admit I've been using swords lately because of Crippling Slash

As PvE goes... Definatly Axe. Triple Chop ftw.
Hammer is probably my favourite for PvP. PvP in this case meaning AB... so many idiots that don't seem to know how much a hammer hits for and are dead 5 seconds later ^^

I prefer a sword in almost every situation, mainly because there are more build varieties than axe(PvP=evicerate, PvE=triple chop, almost always). Which is not to say i don't like axes as well, they have great spiking ability. However, if I'm in PvP i love to take a hammer. doing 86 dmg on a caster before you even hit a skill is awesome.

Personaly I switch between 3 different weapons... I rarely use hammer compared to my sword and axe which I split my time with evenly. If used right, they're both good.

I use all 3 although i usually phase in and out of using different ones, at the moment i dont use my hammer as much, as effectivness goes they all work as well as each other. I love mucking around with skills so my build is rarely the same twice although my axe and sword attack combos are usually the same:
sword- hb, sever, gash, final thrust
axe- triple chop/cleave, dismember, cyclone axe, executioners strike

I'm personally of the mind that if you're not ready, able, and willing to use all three, you're gimping yourself somewhat. Between sword, axe, and hammer, Warriors get a lot of flexibility and a wide range of diverse utility and damage skills, and sometimes specific things are needed more than others.
That said, I nearly always find myself using a sword, and on rare occasion, an axe. I don't mind hammers, but they aren't really my play style.

I personally like Axes. Even though they have a very big damage fluxuation, Axe skills to me are better in damage than swords. Hammers are just not for me, and i dont like them. My favorite axe is Victo's, along with his shield.

When I started I was using swords and then I switched to axes. I tried going back to swords but axes are so much better.
With axes you really only need 3 skills: [skill]Triple Chop[/skill] [skill]Dismember[/skill] [skill]Executioner's Strike[/skill]. With swords you need 3+ skills to come close to the damage of an axe and the Dragon Slash build requires a lot of adrenaline. Oh and having a reliable condition that is basically doing 100+ damage (deep wound) is always good.
